There are many fish species suitable for breeding in aquaponics. It is necessary for a farmer to choose only those species that tolerate each other, do not compete, and especially those that grow fast. We also need a farmer to use our recommendations because some fish are less sensitive and some fish are more sensitive to water quality or oxygen content in water. Each species tolerates the conditions in aquaponics differently and therefore we recommend not mixing the species in the tank. This will ensure greater well-being and less mortality of the fish. Thanks to warm water and regular feeding, fish in aquaponics grow much faster than in ponds. Some species can grow from fry to consumption size within 4 to 5 months.
AFRICAN SHARPTOOTH CATFISH
The most suitable aquaponics fish. He loves warm water and grows at a tremendous speed. The catfish meat is very good. Fillets form half the weight of the fish. Catfish breathe air oxygen and are therefore very suitable for someone who can not take care of the fish intensively.
COMMON CARP
Easy and very fast growing. From an economic point of view, it is not very profitable in aquaponics.
EUROPEAN EEL
Undemanding but slow growing. From an economic point of view, however, the fish is very good.
NILE PERCH also known as LATES NILOTICUS
Another fish very suitable for aquaponics. Not only does it grow fast and tastes good, but is still low on oxygen and is therefore suitable for beginners aquaponists.
